ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — The Islamabad International Airport was officially named after slain former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Thursday, the 61st anniversary of the country’s independence from British rule.
The airport administration, after receiving government notification, placed the new board of Islamabad airport with the name of Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has made the decision to rename the Islamabad airport in June.
Bhutto was killed at the gate of Liaquat Bagh park in the city of Rawalpindi on Dec. 27, 2007 after addressing an election rally.
The government on Thursday also named General Hospital in Rawalpindi as Benazir Bhutto Hospital, where the leader died.
