Sainsbury’s Opens New Environment-Friendly Store in Devon

August 19, 2008

Retailer Sainsbury’s has opened a new environment-friendly store in Dartmouth, Devon. The company claims that this store is built with recycled materials and will help in reducing its energy bills.

According to Merchant News, the new store is made out of timber and uses a biomass boiler running on wood chips. This outlet also features solar-powered fans and toilets that can be flushed using rainwater.

Talking Retail has quoted Neil Sachdev, commercial director at Sainsbury’s, as saying: “We’ve been keen to experiment with a number of energy saving measures here, from sun pipes, which provide amazing natural light, to using a timber frame rather than steel.”
