Probe into Air Crash Closes

August 20, 2008

Air accident investigations into a plane crash which left two people dead have been completed.

A Luscombe Silvair came down in fields between Stafford and Uttoxeter, at around midday on Sunday, December 16, killing the pilot and passenger.

A second aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision and made an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport.

Pilot Peter Leigh, aged 60, of The Green, Clayton, and passenger David Sims, aged 67, of Caistor Close, Milton, died in the crash.

Now officials from the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) have concluded a draft report into the accident.

Spokesman Tim Atkinson said: “We will be sending it out within the next few days to the Civil Aviation Authority and other interested parties.”

The consultation will last for 28 days before a full report is compiled.

Inquests into the deaths have already been opened and adjourned to a later date.
