Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a $30m contract from Shenandoah Telecommunications (Shentel) to provide equipment, services, and software for upgrading the company's network in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy third-generation CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A technology, which it said will provide increased data capacity and speed for faster uploads and downloads and enhanced mobile broadband data services for Shentel customers. It will also provide installation, engineering, and network integration services.
Shentel president Chris French said: "With this upgrade to our network, we will be able to give our customers access to some of the most advanced wireless technology available today, to provide unequalled quality and reliability for both voice and data communications."
