Far East Energy Completes First Horizontal Coalbed Methane Well in Qinnan Block
Far East Energy has completed drilling its first multilateral horizontal coalbed methane well on the Qinnan Block in the Shanxi Province, China.
This horizontal well in the Qinnan Block contains a total of six radials and has attained a total horizontal distance of approximately 3,000m or 9,800ft in the coal seam. The well will be completed for production testing.
Far East has also announced the commencement of a short-reach horizontal well, as well as the completion of one deviated well, and the commencement of a second, all in its Shouyang Block in the Shanxi Province.
The Qinnan Block is believed to have high gas content, but lower permeability than the Shouyang Block. Lower permeability coalbed methane wells reprotedly reach critical desorption pressure and produce gas more quickly than higher permeability wells, although the individual wells may not be as prolific over the long-term.
