Nigeria, Germany sign power supply agreement
ABUJA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — Nigeria and Germany on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding targeted at improving power supply in the country.
Tagged Nigeria-German Energy Partnership Memorandum of Understanding, the agreement empowers Germany to execute various power supply projects in different parts of Nigeria.
By the agreement, Germany is expected to inject 6,500 megawatts of electricity into Nigerian national grid network between now and 2020.
Nigeria experiences epileptic power supply, leading to high cost of production as industries and homes rely heavily on power generating sets.
The project includes expansion of existing dams, rehabilitation of substations and building of new power plants in different parts of the country.
The power stations will include hydro plants, thermal plants, coal-powered plants, solar thermal plants, solar photovoltaic panels, wind power plants, waste-to-energy plants and light crude plants near refineries.
