Major news items in leading Turkish newspapers

ANKARA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — The following are major news items in leading Turkish newspapers on Monday.

ZAMAN (Time):

— Beijing 2008 Olympics closed on Sunday with a ceremony at the “Bird’s Nest” the Olympic Stadium and China topping the gold medal table and United States following second. Turkish athletes won one gold, four silver and three bronze medals, ranking 37th.

YENI SAFAK (New Dawn):

— Turkey is home to rich resources for 77 types of mines out of 90 traded globally. Turkey, which ranks the second across the world in terms of gold mine, has 72 percent of boron beds and other mines extracted are zinc, lead, iron, chrome, aluminum and copper.

HURRIYET (Freedom):

— One Turkish citizen as among the 65 passengers who died in Sunday’s air crash in Kyrgyztan. Itek Air’s Boeing 737 to Tehran took off from Kyrgyztan’s capital of Bishkek with 90 passengers on board and crashed in a few minutes.
