Borrego Solar Systems, Inc. Expands New England Operations Into Connecticut As Demand for Solar Energy Continues to Increase

Posted on: Wednesday, 27 August 2008, 09:01 CDT

Borrego Solar Systems, Inc., a leading designer and installer of grid-connected solar electric power systems, today announced that the company will expand its New England operations into Connecticut to meet increasing demand for solar energy. Since opening a New England office in July 2007, Borrego Solar has experienced significant growth, installing more than 50 residential, commercial and public-sector solar electric systems throughout the region. The company has also installed more than 127 total kilowatts of residential solar electricity in Massachusetts so far in 2008 -- more than any other company -- and this success has enabled Borrego Solar to increase its staff by 300 percent in the past year to more than 30 employees.

"Our growth in New England has been fueled by increasing demand for sustainable alternatives to traditional energy, and we anticipate continued success as we expand into Connecticut," said Chris Anderson, COO of Borrego Solar. "The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund represents one of the most generous, comprehensive clean energy initiatives in the country, and its momentum will continue to facilitate the rapid adoption of solar electricity."

Borrego Solar's 50 regional installations offset 2.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent of planting nearly 1,000 acres of trees. Some of Borrego's notable projects in New England include "The River" WXRV-FM radio in Haverhill, Mass., a 100 kW system at the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority's Deer Island Treatment Plant in Winthrop, Mass., and a 130 kW system at Wilson Language Training's corporate headquarters in Oxford, Mass. The $388,160 rebate on this project represents the largest awarded to date under the Commonwealth Solar Initiative. Additional highlights from the past year include:

-- In June 2008, Borrego Solar opened a new, larger New England office in Lowell, Mass. to facilitate its rapid growth. The company hosted a ribbon- cutting ceremony attended by Lowell Mayor Edward C. Caulfield, Massachusetts Rep. James B. Eldridge (37th Middlesex District) and other local business and political leaders. -- Brendan Neagle, Borrego Solar's vice president of business development, led a discussion titled "The Influence of Rebates and Incentives on the Solar Industry; What Obstacles Remain for U.S. National Adoption of Solar PV?" during Clean Technology 2008 in Boston. -- Chris Anderson earned a PV-1 license in the state of Connecticut, which allows Borrego Solar to perform solar electric system work related to the installation, erection, repair, replacement, alteration or maintenance of photovoltaic systems, including storage and distribution of the energy.

"It is extremely important for Connecticut homeowners and businesses to understand that in order to receive the rebates offered by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, their solar electric system must be installed by a PV-1 certified contractor," said Anderson. "Borrego Solar is one of just a handful of companies to earn this license, and we look forward to bringing our unmatched experience and impeccable customer service to Connecticut residents as they turn to solar to meet their long-term energy needs."
