Invensys Process Systems, a technology, software and consulting firm, has won a multi-million dollar contract from the state-owned Taiwan Power Company to provide critical upgrades to the Kuosheng nuclear power plant in northern Taiwan.

Under the terms of the contract, Invensys Process Systems (IPS) will replace and upgrade obsolete analog-based recirculation water control systems with digital systems, allowing the Kuosheng nuclear power plant (NPP) to better handle plant transients and significantly improve plant availability.

IPS will also provide modifications to operational training simulators to ensure process consistency with the upgrades.

IPS will provide Kuosheng NPP with a suite of digital control automation solutions, including its IA Series system, Fsim and Sim4Me simulation software, as well as nuclear engineering, Verification and Validation site installation and commissioning services.

Jackson Chiu, general manager of IPS at Taiwan, said: “IPS is glad to be a trusted solutions partner of Taiwan Power in its nuclear power generation expansion and market improvement goals. With ever increasing crude, feedstock and operational costs, nuclear power generation will drive the next phase of energy affordability and availability to industries and households. Thus automating critical plant processes for better reliability and safety has never been more important.”
