ROCKVILLE, Md., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin announced today that it was awarded two, multi-year contracts by AmerenUE to implement more than a dozen energy efficiency programs for the company's 1.2 million business and residential electric customers. The contracts are part of AmerenUE's commitment to spend more than $70 million over 3 years for a range of initiatives, including incentives to help consumers reduce their energy use and save on their bills and to delay the need to build large and expensive new power plants.
Under the first contract, Lockheed Martin will work with AmerenUE's large industrial and commercial customers to identify and implement energy cost reduction opportunities in lighting, heating and cooling, compressed air, motor drives, refrigeration and other processes in industrial plants, offices and commercial facilities.
Under the second contract, Lockheed Martin will assist AmerenUE residential customers in accessing and purchasing ENERGY STAR(R) lighting and appliance products, and will assist home builders in designing, building and marketing ENERGY STAR new homes. In addition, Lockheed Martin will create a Home Energy Performance program, which maximizes the energy efficiency of existing homes by training home improvement contractors in providing comprehensive energy efficiency services to homeowners.
"AmerenUE has made a commitment to energy efficiency as a tool to bridge the gap between their current supply portfolio and future power plant construction," says Tom Grumbly, vice president, Lockheed Martin Energy & Security Services. "We are excited to help AmerenUE and its customers solve their complex energy challenges through innovative energy efficiency programs and technology application."
Lockheed Martin is one of the nation's largest implementers of energy efficiency programs for utility customers. It currently works with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Energy Trust of Oregon, Pacific Gas & Electric Co., Southern California Edison Co. and several other utilities throughout the U.S.
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
