Southern Company Names CEO of Southern Nuclear
The Southern Company, which is engaged in power generation, has appointed James Miller III as president and CEO of its subsidiary, Southern Nuclear, effective immediately.
Mr Miller, who currently serves as senior vice president, compliance officer, and general counsel at Georgia Power, will assume the additional role as chairman of Southern Nuclear when Barnie Beasley retires on October 1, 2008.
Mr Miller joined the Southern Company in 1994 as corporate counsel for Southern Nuclear after achieving partner status with the Birmingham, Alabama-based law firm Balch and Bingham.
Since then, he has held roles of increasing responsibility, including senior vice president of external affairs, and senior vice president of the Birmingham division at Alabama Power.
David Ratcliffe, chairman, president and CEO of the Southern Company, said: “Nuclear energy will play an increasingly important role in meeting the growing electricity needs of our customers. Jim has been in leadership roles in a variety of key areas across the Southern Company system including Southern Nuclear.”
