Iran: Ardabil Governor Hails Moghan Oil Exploration

Ardabil Province, 28 August: The governor-general of Ardabil Province has said that the beginning of exploration at the Moghan oil field is a major gift of the ninth government to the people of this province.

On Thursday [28 August], Ali Nikzad said at a meeting with the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company in Ardabil Province that the implementation of this project, which was approved during the president's visit to Ardabil Province, would lead to major progress in the province in the economic sphere, and especially in the poor and border towns of the province, the public affairs department of the Ardabil Province governor-general's office reported.

He spoke about the government's investment in the oil sphere in the province and said that the completion of a large oil terminal in Ardabil, the allocation of soft loans to the private sector in order to increase the number of petrol and CNG [compressed natural gas] stations, and the establishment of petrol and gas selling units in villages was part of the services of the ninth government in this province.

At the meeting, the governor-general of Ardabil Province also urged the scheduling of fuel supplies to the power plant in Ardabil in winter. He said that currently three active units of this plant produce 472.5 MW of electricity and that this is sufficient for supplying with electricity the northwestern part of the country. He said that the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company should make necessary arrangements for supplying this plant with fuel in order to prevent a shortage in winter.
