Bulgarian Minister, Russian Envoy Reiterate Commitment to Energy Projects

Sofia, 29 August: Economy and Energy Minister Petur Dimitrov received [on] Friday [29 August] the newly-appointed Russian ambassador here, Yuriy Isakov. The two agreed that the big energy projects – Burgas-Alexandroupolis, South Stream and the Belene nuclear power plant – are of interest to both Bulgaria and Russia, and their speedy implementation will have a strong economic impact on both countries, Dimitrov’s ministry said in a press release. The two officials also discussed strategic cooperation in carrying out the big energy projects.

The participants in the meeting stressed the traditionally-good relations between Bulgaria and Russia, says the press release.

Dimitrov and Isakov stated their opinion that the productive and mutually-beneficial relations between the two countries need to be based on an open dialogue.
