Talks Between USW, ArcelorMittal Continue
The United Steelworkers and ArcelorMittal continued negotiations in Pittsburgh Friday in an effort to reach an new contract before the current agreement expires on Monday night, spokesmen said Friday. Negotiators for the company and the Pittsburgh-based union, which represents 14,000 steelworkers at 14 plants, plan to bargain throughout the weekend, said USW spokesman Tony Montana. The USW members on Wednesday gave the union negotiators the authority to call a strike. ArcelorMittal said in a statement its offer is in line with the recent settlement at U.S. Steel Corp. and is competitive with the industry.
