Seoul, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) – Romanian President Traian Basescu will make a three-day state visit to South Korea, starting on Sept. 10, for a summit with President Lee Myung-bak [Yi Myo'ng-pak] over practical ways to boost bilateral cooperation, the presidential office Chongwadae [ROK Office of the President] said Wednesday.
“Lee’s summit talks with Basescu, slated for next Thursday, are expected to focus on reinforcing the two countries’ economic and commercial relations,” Chongwadae [ROK Office of the President] said in a statement.
“The Romanian president will also meet with National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyung-o and visit Inchon’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.”
Romania, a southeastern European country which joined the EU in January 2007, is now pushing to introduce LNG from the Middle East, and South Korean companies are seeking to participate in Romania’s expected construction of an LNG terminal, the statement explained.
The upcoming visit will mark Basescu’s second trip to South Korea following his first in October 2005. Lee’s predecessor, No Mu-hyo’n [Roh Moo-hyun], made a state visit to Romania in September 2006.
