Kemin Industries will help the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to further improve the quality and nutritional impact of the food it distributes to the hungry poor throughout the world, it was announced today.
Kemin, through an agreement signed in at WFP's headquarters in Rome, will support WFP in building technical expertise in the field of food quality maintenance and quality assurance systems. WFP is the world's largest humanitarian aid agency. Last year it distributed 3.3 million metric tons of food to 86.1 million people.
As the recognized leader in food shelf life stability, with nearly 50 years of experience in scientific research and development of products and services in the food and feed industries, Kemin will provide specialists to improve the quality of WFP's processed and fortified foods. These include items such as High Energy Biscuits, the specially enriched cookies which WFP distributes in emergency situations.
"The goals of the World Food Programme are very much in alignment with our vision and our values. The work that they do is extremely important and we are very pleased to be able to offer our expertise to help improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries around the world," says Kemin President, Dr. Chris Nelson.
"WFP strives for a world where all people have enough nutritious food to lead healthy, productive lives. By working with organizations such as Kemin Industries we can ensure that our food quality and safety needs are met with the highest level of integrity and scientific innovation while we focus on meeting our goal," says Mario Fetz, WFP's Director of Private Sector Partnerships.
