Narita Airport Users During Summer Holidays Down 6.8 Pct
Tokyo, Sept. 4 (Jiji Press)–The number of travelers departing and arriving at Narita International Airport near Tokyo during this year’s summer holiday season fell 6.8 pct from a year earlier to 3,623,100, the airport’s operator said Thursday.
The drop between July 17 and Aug. 31 reflected a slowing economy and hefty fuel surcharges on air tickets, Narita International Airport Corp. said.
The figure was down for the first time since 2005, when anti- Japan protests in China put Japanese tourists off visiting the country.
The number of people departing from the airport peaked at 48,700 on Aug. 9, while the number of arrivals hit a high of 51,100 on Aug. 17.END
