New Police Force at Airport

LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport unveils its own police force today.

Merseyside Police, working with Peel Airports, launch their new team, dedicated to the policing of JLA.

The team of 10 officers, led by an inspector, will be responsible for all the policing needs at the airport.

At present Peel and Merseyside Police each pay for one full time police officer to work at the airport.

Now the dedicated team will provide a 24- hour presence and assistant Chief Constable Patricia Gallan said: "One of the key roles for the team will include working, alongside the private security firms within the airport, to address counterterrorism issues which affect every airport in the UK."

The Daily Post revealed last month that airport owners such as Peel and local police forces could be expected to foot the bill for dedicated forces as the Government attempts to ease the burden on police.
