Southwest Airlines Monthly Passenger Traffic Down

Southwest Airlines has announced that its passenger traffic decreased 5.2% to 6.6 billion revenue passenger miles in August 2008, compared to seven billion revenue passenger miles in August 2007.

The airline's capacity measured in available seat miles increased 1.5% to 8.9 billion, compared to 8.7 billion in August 2007. The load factor for August 2008 was 74.6%, compared to 80% for the same period in 2007.

Southwest Airlines has enplaned 8.97 million passengers in August 2008, a decrease of 6.6%, compared to 9.6 million in the same period of 2007. Revenue passengers carried decreased 6.3% to 7.75 million, from 8.27 million in August 2007.
