WE Signs UK Deals
Westinghouse Electric Co. said Thursday it signed memoranda of understanding with three United Kingdom companies to collaborate on building nuclear power plants there should the government select Westinghouse for its revived nuclear energy plans.
Monroeville-based Westinghouse signed agreements with BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce plc and Doosan Babcock for work on design, production and manufacturing of components for its AP1000 reactor.
The agreements are contingent upon the British government choosing the AP1000 over reactors of rival companies, said Westinghouse spokesman Vaughn Gilbert. A decision is anticipated within the next year.
