Talia Contracts Multiple Transponders on NSS-12 Satellite

Satellite communication services provider SES New Skies has announced that Talia, a suppliers of satellite internet services, has contracted multiple transponders on its NSS-12 satellite, valued in excess of $10 million, due for launch in the second half of 2009.

According to SES, NSS-12 will replace the existing NSS-703 satellite at the orbital position of 57 degrees east. NSS-12 is under construction with Space Systems/Loral and is expected to bring increased capacity and transmission power to a key location at the crossroads of Europe and Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

NSS-12's combined Ku- and C-band footprint is also expected to cover virtually the entire eastern hemisphere, from Europe and Africa in the west, to the eastern half of Australia to the east. The spacecraft is claimed to feature 40 C-band transponders and 48 Ku-band transponders, DTH-power, as well as elaborate beam inter-connectivity and C-or Ku-band cross-strapping.

Alan Afrasiab, CEO of Talia, said: "During 2009, NSS-12 will become one of the most powerful satellites in the region. Its vast footprint and high-output power levels ideally support Talia's ambitions to increase our coverage area and to target new customers. We look forward to a successful launch of NSS-12 and to our transition from NSS-703 to the new SES New Skies satellite."
