Methane Deposits Found in Wales

An Australian energy company said there may be five or six substantial blocks of coal bed methane under the Llynfi Valley near Bridgend, Wales.

The company, Eden Energy, which is working with two British companies, said one block could supply 5 percent of Britain's energy needs for a year, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"We are sitting on a major resource of methane at a time when prices for this commodity have never been higher," said Greg Solomon, executive chairman of Eden Energy.

"There is a significant quantity of energy that could be tapped here."

Huw Irranca-Davies, a member of Parliament for Ogmore in south Wales, called it "a huge potential."

"I think people are going to be very supportive when they realize just what we have got here," Irranca-Davies said.
