Traveling Exhibit About Steel Driver John Henry Coming to Charleston
A new traveling exhibit, John Henry: The Steel Drivin’ Man, will be on display at Verizon’s Charleston headquarters, 1500 MacCorkle Ave., now through Sept. 19.
The exhibit gives viewers a better understanding of the legend of the famous steel driver who defeated a steam drill in a contest believed to have occurred in the 1870s during construction of the Big Bend Tunnel in Summers County.
John Henry and his man-versus-machine struggle are immortalized in one of the world’s best-known folk songs.
The exhibit is located in the first floor lobby of Verizon.
