Spacenet, a provider of satellite and hybrid networking services, has added EV-DO, a 3G wireless data service, to its portfolio of satellite and common carrier broadband services.

According to the company, this new offering will enable enterprise and government customers to leverage EV-DO as part of a hybrid network for primary or stand-by communications, or at locations where other wireline alternatives are not available.

As part of a hybrid network, EV-DO can serve as primary connectivity or as a ‘hot stand-by’ to a satellite link. In many cases, it can also be used at locations where other wireline connections are not available, providing a wireless broadband alternative to slower dial-up services.

David Myers, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at Spacenet, said: “This newest addition to our portfolio provides enterprise and government organizations alike with more price/performance choices in a managed wide area network. It also represents an extension of Spacenet’s commitment to help our customers continually improve the efficiency and reliability of their critical communications.”
