Boralex Power Income Fund Temporarily Ceases Its Operations at the Senneterre Wood-Residue Thermal Power Station
MONTREAL, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Boralex Power Income Fund (the “Fund”) announces today a temporarily cease of its operations at the wood-residue thermal plant in Senneterre, Quebec, starting September 21 up to NovemberÂÂ 15. The decision to momentarily cease the operations of the power station results from the on-going difficulties in securing wood residue supply in the region.
Patrick Lemaire, President of Boralex Power Inc. and Manager of the Senneterre power station noted that: “the Fund is facing a reduction of its fuel supply following certain sawmills closures in the region, which in turn currently affects its power generation. During this downtime, we will carry out regular maintenance which had already been forecast for about a week’s duration.”
The power station has an installed capacity of 34.6 MW and employs about 30 employees. The Fund will evaluate on a monthly basis the prevailing market conditions and expects to be in a position to resume its activities in time for the capacity premiums period, namely from December to March.
Furthermore, the Dolbeau wood-residue thermal power station is also experiencing difficulties in getting fuel supply because of sawmills closures. With an installed capacity of 28 MW, the power station ceased generating electricity and maintained its steam production to preserve its inventory and fully capture the capacity premiums.
