Richmond International Airport has received a $2.8 million state grant for four infrastructure projects. The state funds will help pay for rehabilitation of Richmond International’s Runway 2-20, expansion of aircraft parking areas, reconfiguration of six vehicle access gates to the airport’s operating areas, and landscaping of the airfield’s entrance road.

“This is welcome news from the state Aviation Board,” said Richmond International spokesman Troy Bell yesterday “We’re certainly grateful for the funding on these very worthwhile projects.”

The Virginia Aviation Board also allocated $60,000 to Chesterfield County Airport for taxiway rehabilitation and $2,500 for obstruction removal at New Kent County Airport.

In total, the Aviation Board made $13.8 million in state grant awards for 63 projects at 33 Virginia airports, the state Department of Aviation said yesterday.

Leveraging $33.4 million from federal sources and $5.44 million from local airports agencies, said the Aviation Department’s Keith McCrae, the state funds translate “into approximately $53 million being allocated for airport projects throughout the commonwealth.”
