PSE Offers Customers Free Energy-Efficient Lamps and Bulbs at Fall Events

Posted on: Friday, 12 September 2008, 18:00 CDT

Puget Sound Energy today announced the Sept. 13 kick-off of its fall energy-efficient lighting events with lamp and bulb exchanges in time for the shorter daylight hours.

At one of three events beginning this Saturday, PSE residential electric customers will have the opportunity to exchange their incandescent lamps and bulbs for more efficient lamps and compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs at no cost at select retail-partner locations. Customers will receive free ENERGY STAR(R) lamps ranging in value from $30-$50 each in exchange for less efficient lamps. In addition to saving energy and helping to reduce electric bills, the CFL bulbs in the new lamps can last as much as 10 times longer than conventional bulbs.

"CFL bulbs use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent types," said Cal Shirley, vice president of Energy Efficiency Services for PSE. The energy savings from the free products PSE is exchanging at the three events alone total 700,000 kilowatt hours or enough energy to power nearly 60 Puget Sound-area homes for a year.

The events will focus on helping customers on any budget find the best resources to save energy. "Porch lights are a great place to put a CFL because they are left on more hours of the day," said Shirley. Energy Advisors at the events will help customers choose the right CFL bulb, recycle their spent CFL bulbs, and answer questions about how to make their homes more energy efficient for the darker, colder months ahead.

Events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will offer food, prizes, and other activities. PSE residential electric customers should bring identification to prove their customer status and arrive early, as supplies are limited. In-store displays can be seen at the event locations.
