PPG in Talks With USW Over East Deer Glass Plant Sale
PPG Industries Inc. of Pittsburgh is negotiating with the United Steelworkers Local 12-G, which represents about 230 workers at the company’s Creighton glass plant in East Deer. The USW and the company are negotiating on the effects of the pending change in ownership of the plant, said James Watt, a staff representative for the United Steelworkers. The Creighton plant was affected by PPG’s decision to sell 60 percent of its ownership of its automotive glass and related services businesses to a private equity firm, Kohlberg & Co. of Mt. Kisco, N.Y. When PPG announced the sale in July, it said it expected to close the deal by Sept. 30. The Creighton plant makes windshields for vehicles. A PPG spokesman could not be reached for comment.
