Skappo Expands With New Gourmet Store

Skappo Merkato, a specialty gourmet food shop managed by the Sincavage family, recently opened at 51 Orange Street in New Haven.

The Sincavage family has owned and operated Skappo Italian Wine Bar, an intimate restaurant in New Haven, for nearly five years, offering patrons a taste of central Italian cuisine. the family now seeks to offer its clientele an assortment of Italian items that can be enjoyed at home.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m., Skappo Merkato offers a variety of organic specialty items from Italy and worldwide, including infused sauces, spreads, gluten-free items, pastas, jarred vegetables, preserves, cereals, legumes, specialty flours and condiments.

The family-operated store also sells a wide selection of specialty bakery items including homemade walnut parmigiano bread, biscotti, Umbrian flat bread and sweet breakfast cakes. Skappo Merkato will also offer a myriad of the restaurant's popular dishes, including spinach and ricotta gnocchi, eggplant meatballs and vegetable soups:
