E-PETROL Holding Sdn Bhd is in talks with the governments of Indonesia and Dubai to promote cashless payments using smart identification cards.

Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussein said it is also talking to three local banks to promote the use of MyKad to pay for fuel at petrol stations, after inking a deal with EON Bank Bhd.

Users can register and link their MyKad to either their savings or current account with participating banks for the service for a nonimal fee.

E-Petrol was set up in 2003 by Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, founder of the RHB group of companies, and Dialog Group Bhd chairman and group managing director Ngau Boon Keat to develop cashless payment solutions and enhance the use of MyKad.

Abdul Rashid said e-Petrol has invested over RM50 million in the past two years to develop leading-edge technology entailing full end- to-end system integration linking petrol firms to banks.

It is also a multi-functional system capable of supporting multi- tiered applications such as subsidy management and cash back.

“The banks that we are talking to are in an advanced stage of integrating with our system. We hope to tie up with them by December or early next year,” Abdul Rashid said.

“We hope to work with all the local and international banks here to offer the service,” he said at the launch of the e-Petrol MyKad payments pilot by EON Bank in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

It was officiated by Bank Negara Malaysia assistant governor Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus.

During the two-month pilot, 250 EON Bank customers will use their MyKad to pay for fuel at 11 designated BHP, Caltex and Dialog-owned petrol stations in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

E-Petrol will also offer each participant a rebate of 15 sen a litre, capped at 150 litres a month.
