Energy Future Holdings and Its Companies Pledge $1 Million to Aid Hurricane Relief Efforts

Today, the companies of Energy Future Holdings (EFH) - Oncor, Luminant and TXU Energy - pledged $1 million in disaster relief funding to help those impacted by Hurricane Ike.
"Energy Future Holdings is a family of Texas-based companies and we live, work and do business in these communities that have been devastated by this disaster," said CEO John Young. "We all have family, friends and neighbors who have been affected, and feel it is our responsibility to participate in the network of individuals, businesses, governments and non-profit organizations helping people get back on their feet after a devastating blow."
A substantial amount of the $1 million commitment will go to assisting the relief efforts of the American Red Cross. The remaining funds will be dedicated to assist with locally-affected food banks, shelters, housing activities, or other needs that are identified by community partners and affected municipalities.
Early estimates show that thousands of homes - as many as 14,000 - have been leveled or sustained major damage.
"We are heartsick for the people of our state," said Cheryl Sutterfield-Jones, chief executive officer, American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter. "The damage is unimaginable and we know that the work ahead for the families and the Red Cross is going to be arduous. But we will do what needs to be done for these families, and that will only be possible because of partners like Energy Future Holdings, Luminant, Oncor and TXU Energy. Together, we'll take the first steps to help these families rebuild their lives."
