September 17, 2008
Contact Energy has welcomed the granting of resource consent for the company’s 220MW Te Mihi geothermal power station at Taupo, New Zealand.
David Baldwin, CEO of Contact Energy, said that Te Mihi was a nationally significant generation project that would provide the country with enough renewable, baseload energy to power more than 200,000 homes.
Mr Baldwin said: “Good progress is being made with the development of three new geothermal power stations totaling approximately 500MW. In addition to the granting of resource consents for the Te Mihi project, discussions with potential construction contractors for the Te Mihi power station are advancing on schedule.”
