The Rectorseal Corporation Acquires OEM Products Inc., Manufacturer of Patented Kickstart(R) Hard-Start Devices for the HVAC Industry

September 18, 2008

The Rectorseal Corporation, a Houston-based manufacturer of specialty chemical products and tools for the HVAC industry, has acquired the assets of OEM Products Inc., Gardnerville, NV, manufacturer of the widely used, patented Kickstart(R) hard-start device for A/C compressors (www.kickstartoem.com)

Hard start devices extend the life of compressors considerably by bringing them up to full speed more quickly and efficiently. They also assist compressors in starting under very adverse ambient conditions such as low voltage or high head pressures.

Kickstart(R) is the only two-wire, pre-assembled hard-start device that uses a Mechanical Potential Relay in its patented design. No circuit boards, timers or PTCR devices are used. This unique design has earned product approval from leading compressor and equipment manufacturers – a first for any two-wire starting device in the HVACR industry. By helping a compressor start up to ten times faster than normal, Kickstart(R) hard start devices significantly reduce the amount of damaging heat generated in motor windings with each start. Over time, this reduces stress on insulation, wiring, and other critical components of the compressor and has the effect of increasing its reliability and extending its useful life. In addition, Kickstart(R) devices accomplish this by boosting the electrical efficiency (also known as “power factor”) of the compressor during start up from less than 50% to over 98%, enabling all of the available power to reach the compressor for smooth, fast starts. Homeowners also discover that installing a Kickstart(R) hard start device on their air conditioning unit can prevent the lights from dimming whenever the unit starts up.

Sean Holloway, National Sales Manager for RectorSeal’s HVAC Division, commented, “Kickstart devices are recognized by A/C industry professionals as high-quality, reliable products that can increase unit operating efficiency, prolong compressor life and save customers some money on their electricity bills. To help with the nation’s need for power conservation, we hope to expand the use of Kickstart devices using consumer and contractor education and by offering them through our established nationwide distribution network in the A/C industry.”
