Metro Station Back in Use
METRO services to Newcastle Airport were due to get back to normal today.
The Airport Metro station had been closed since it was flooded on September 6.
A shuttle service operated between Callerton Parkway and Kingston Park while repair work was carried out.
A normal timetable has now resumed, and passengers will no longer have to change from the train to a bus at Kingston Park.
A Nexus spokesman said: “We have been working round the clock to repair our damaged track and signaling equipment, which was overwhelmed by the flood water.”
The flooding at the Newcastle Airport station was the worst seen on Metro since the early 1990s.
The water rose above platform level and deluged the signaling cables and track-side equipment.
