Entergy Restoration Hits 52 Percent

BEAUMONT, Texas, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ — Entergy Texas, Inc. today reports more than 214,000 customers impacted by Hurricane Ike now have power. With almost 178,000 still in need of electricity, that puts the restoration rate at 55 percent.

Also, Entergy Corporation has announced a partnership with the Foundation for the Mid South to create the Entergy Hurricane Relief Fund to be used to help disaster victims restore their lives in the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Entergy Corporation will contribute $700,000 to the fund which will go to nonprofits and intermediary organizations to help those in need.

Joe Domino, president and chief executive officer, today said early restoration work has moved faster than expected. He added that the company stands by its original estimate that 100 percent of customers will be restored by Oct. 6. Others who are located in very rural areas or in areas impacted by storm surge flooding may take longer.

   He did, however, cite a number of areas of significant progress.    -- The Lewis Creek power plant in Montgomery County is fully operational,      allowing Entergy Texas to energize many transmission and power lines in      the company's western area.   -- Power has been restored to many critical infrastructure sites, such as      hospitals, police and fire, and water and sewer facilities.   -- A 500 kilovolt line from the east is back in service, allowing power to      be imported into Texas from Entergy's transmission system in Louisiana      and from the northern portion of Entergy's service territory. This      increases the number of customers that can be restored as more and more      substations and distribution networks are connected and energized.   -- Additional restoration workers are moving into Texas from Entergy      Arkansas, Inc., where restoration of power outages also caused by      Hurricane Ike is now complete.    

Earlier this week, the company opened a number of Customer Information Centers where customers could meet with Entergy representatives face to face. The locations of those centers are changing as restoration continues, with the center in Dayton closed and four new ones open.

   Centers are now located at:     -- Port Neches Hebert Public Library, 2025 Merriman, Port Neches.   -- Daisetta Community Center, 222 East Plum, Daisetta.   -- Chambers County Annex, 211 Broadway, Winnie.   -- Vidor High School Gym, 500 Orange Street, Vidor.   -- Parkdale Mall Community Room, 6155 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont.   -- Bridge City Community Center, 101 Parkside, Bridge City.   -- Lumberton City Hall, 836 N. Main, Lumberton.   -- Port Arthur Senior Citizens Center, 1308 Ninth Ave., Port Arthur.   -- Silsbee Police Department, 1104 N. Fifth St., Silsbee.   -- Conroe Service Center, 2802 Frazier St., Conroe.   -- Cleveland Service Center, 699 FM 2025, Cleveland.   -- New Caney Service Center, 21002 Highway 59 N., New Caney.   -- The Woodlands Service Center, 9425 Pinecroft, The Woodlands.    

All centers are open daily from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. except the Lumberton center which is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Customers seeking information are also encouraged to go to http://www.entergy.com/ where they may link to “View Outages.” The online outage information system displays specifics about power outages over a map of the area. The Web site includes restoration updates and important customer information. Animated restoration progress maps area also available at http://www.entergy.com/, with red lines showing power lines that remain out of service and green ones showing the lines that are energized.

An additional resource is Entergy’s 1-800-9OUTAGE number where customers can hear a recorded message about restoration progress in their area.

Entergy Texas serves all or part of 26 Southeast Texas counties, all of which sustained severe damage from Hurricane Ike. Areas damaged stretch from its southernmost point, Galveston County’s Bolivar Peninsula, northwest to Navasota in Grimes County.
