Construction of $8.9 Billion of North American Coal Gasification Projects Planned for 2009, an Industrial Info News Alert

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- While coal gasification technology has existed for decades, the process is becoming increasingly prevalent in North America, with over $8.9 billion of coal gasification projects scheduled to begin construction in 2009. Industrial Info, as part of its North American Industrial Database, is currently tracking seven coal gasification projects set to kick off construction in 2009 with an average total investment value of $1.27 billion. While six of the seven projects are grassroot projects, Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) (Kingsport, Tennessee) is adding a $1.6 billion coal gasification facility to a plant in Beaumont, Texas. Fluor Daniel Incorporated (Greenville, South Carolina), the engineering and construction division of Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas), has been selected as engineer. Air Products and Chemicals Incorporated (NYSE:APD) (Allentown, Pennsylvania) is adding two air separation units to an adjacent facility to support Eastman's project.
