AEP Offers Customers Option to Buy ‘Green’ Power in W.Va.
American Electric Power's West Virginia electric utilities are offering customers the chance to buy "green" power.
Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power say residential customers can buy 100-kilowatt-hour blocks of electricity generated by wind, hyrdoelectric dams, solar energy and biomass for $1.50 per block. A typical residential customer uses about 1,000 kilowatts monthly, or the equivalent of 10 blocks.
Appalachian Power has about 1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. Columbus, Ohio-based AEP has more than 5 million customers in 11 states.
