The European Court of Justice has rejected a unified EU retirement law regarding mandatory retirement at age 65 or older without compensation.
The court's advocate general ruled against Heyday, a British advocacy group that was backed by the nonprofit organization Age Concern, Health Insurance and Protection reported Tuesday.
The ruling was "good news for business," Mathew Lawrence, a risk consultant at Aon Consulting said.
Many feared a ruling in Heyday's favor would have caused employers to pull back from offering benefits to workers to avoid becoming tangled up in lawsuits, Health Insurance and Protection reported.
