Energex to Upgrade Power Network in Western Suburbs of Brisbane
Australian electricity utility Energex has announced that it will invest in excess of A$12 million in upgrading the electricity network in Brisbane’s western suburbs.
More than 40,000 homes and businesses between Ashgrove and Toowong will benefit from the work which is expected to commence in September 2008.
The upgrade will see nearly 5km of new 33,000V cable placed underground between Energex’s Ashgrove West substation in Barnett Road and the Toowong substation near the Toowong bus depot.
Kevin Ball, Energex’s works group manager, said that the project was one of the company’s largest in Brisbane in 2008 and was required to keep up with larger demands on the local power grid.
Mr Ball said: “Brisbane’s western suburbs have experienced tremendous growth in recent times and with this development comes the need for upgraded electrical infrastructure.”
