SCE&G Receives Approval to Commence Work at Proposed Nuclear Build Site
South Carolina Electric & Gas has received approval from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina to proceed with initial clearing, excavation and construction work at the site where the company is planning to build a new nuclear power plant.
The South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) had filed a petition with the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSC) requesting approval to begin the work.
In addition to accepting written public comments earlier in 2008 on SCE&G’s petition, the PSC held a public hearing September 10, 2008, to consider the request, and approved the petition during its regularly scheduled meeting.
In issuing its decision, the commission noted that SCE&G’s request was justified by public convenience and necessity and that the work is necessary in order to avoid cost increases in the event the project is approved.
