SilkAir to Ply KL-S’Pore Sector
SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) has extended its cooperation with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to include its sister airline, SilkAir, in its code-share arrangement.
“(With the new code-share), SilkAir customers will enjoy … up to 15 flights a day between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur from December 1 2008,” SIA Marketing and The Regions executive vice-president Huan Cheng Eng said in a statement yesterday.
The code-share agreement coincides with the opening up of the lucrative Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air sector on December 1 under the Asean open skies roadmap.
SilkAir will commence twice daily flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur from October 26 2008, while SIA will operate five daily flights.
But from December 1, SIA and SilkAir will operate four flights each.
MAS, meanwhile, will maintain its flight frequency of seven times a day on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route come December.
Together with MAS, the three carriers will offer up to 15 flights a day.
SilkAir chief executive Chin Yau Seng said this would be the first time SilkAir is flying to Kuala Lumpur.
“We are excited about the prospects for this new route,” Chin said.
