Ukrainian Mine Blast Kills Six

Kiev, 4 October: Six miners have been killed in a methane explosion at the Duvanna mine of the Krasnodonvuhillya company in the town of Sukhodilsk in Luhansk Region, the head of the Emergencies Ministry’s press service, Ihor Krol, has said.
Methane unexpectedly exploded at a depth of 520 metres in a deadlocked preparatory pit at around 0045 [local time] on Saturday [4 October, 2145 gmt on 3 October]. The gas did not ignite, Krol said.
At the time, 119 miners worked there. Of those, six were killed in the pit. The remaining 113 workers were immediately evacuated to the surface.
The causes and circumstances of the blast are being established.
Twelve rescue units, the Coal Ministry’s six emergency anti- shock groups and an operative group of the Emergencies Ministry’s main directorate in the region are working at the scene of the accident.
