Delays Cause Terminal Slip

Heathrow Airport’s flagship terminal, hailed as the gateway to the 2012 London Olympics, will not be ready for the event, it has emerged. Airport operator BAA admitted that at best only part of Heathrow East – which will replace Terminals and 2 – will be open in time for the games.

Last month, the Competition Commission called for BAA to end its monopoly over London’s airports, advocating the sale of Stansted and Gatwick.

A BAA spokeswoman said: “The delay in the transfer of flights to Terminal 5 has inevitably had an impact on Heathrow East. But BAA is very experienced in making up lost time on programmes, as shown on Terminal 5.”
