Posted on: Sunday, 5 October 2008, 21:00 CDT

Two earthquakes struck Asia and a third temblor shook a region of the Pacific Rim early Monday, geological experts said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan at 3:26 a.m. local time. The epicenter was about 45 miles south-southeast of Kabul.

Another quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, hit Kyrgyzstan at 12:27 a.m., the survey said. That quake was centered 40 miles east-southeast of Sary-Tash.

A 5.2 quake was registered at 2:10 a.m. in the Kermadec Islands region. It was centered 589 miles northeast of Auckland, New Zealand.

There were no reports of damage or casualties as a result of the temblors.
