`Operators Failed to Stock Up Petrol’

October 6, 2008

PUTRAJAYA: Only 10 of the 3,095 petrol stations in the country have run out of supply, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said yesterday.

Of the number, four are in Kelantan, two each in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang, and one each in Selangor and Johor.

Shahrir said the situation was caused by station operators failing to stock up before the festive period.

The surge in demand and late deliveries by the oil companies also contributed to the situation, he said.

“However, the onus is always on the operators to make sure they have adequate supply at all times,” he added.
