Iran, China Continue Energy Talks

Tehran, 6 October: The Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Seyfollah Jashnsaz is in China heading an energy delegation in a bid to finalize previous agreements on the expansion of energy cooperation.

According to SHANA [Petroenergy Information Network], technical cooperation, finalizing the North Pars gas field development contract, LNG trade, and the participation of Chinese companies in South Pars gas field development plan will be on top of the agenda.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has been present in Iran since 2004 and is engaged in oil and gas operation and oilfield services in the country.

On 20 August 2007, CNPC received a notice from NIOC that approved the Supplementary Agreement of the Iran Masjid Suleyman (MIS) Oil Field project contract. This marked the beginning of the term of the MIS project. Drilling of V-1, the projects first exploration well, started on 18 November 2007.

Based on an agreement made between the foreign investors in Iran LNG project (Total and Petronas), CNPC of China will join the project and a memorandum of understanding has been signed in this respect.
