Qantas to Reduce International Fuel Surcharges
October 8, 2008
Australian airline Qantas has announced that it will reduce its international fuel surcharges, effective October 9, 2008, in response to the recent reduction in oil and jet fuel prices.
The fuel surcharges for the UK and Europe will be decreased to A$190 from A$210 and the fuel surcharges for Asia-Pacific and Honolulu will be decreased to A$110 from A$120. Fuel surcharges on flights to New Zealand will be decreased to A$65 from $70.
John Borghetti, executive general manager of Qantas, said: “Although the price has fallen below $100 a barrel in recent days, oil remains very volatile and a major challenge for the airline industry. The surcharge reduction would be accompanied by domestic fare reductions.”
