Deffenbaugh Named VP Of SwRI’s Mechanical And Materials Engineering Division

Danny M. Deffenbaugh has been promoted to vice president of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). He was previously assistant vice president of the division. Deffenbaugh is a mechanical engineer with expertise in applied thermodynamics. In his more than 35 years at SwRI he has applied his expertise to research projects in the aerospace and energy industries for government and commercial clients. For the oil and gas industry, he served as project manager of SwRI's gas industry metering research program and Gas Machinery Research Council (GMRC) program. He has conducted a broad range of programs for the U.S. Department of Energy in the areas of solar energy, energy conservation, coal combustion and natural gas compression.

In his new role, he will oversee a $55 million per year activity with nearly 300 staff members in five research departments: Engineering Dynamics, Materials Engineering, Fluids Engineering, Structural and Mechanical Engineering, and Sensor Systems and Nondestructive Evaluation.
