Continental Begins Construction of New Tire Plant in China
German auto components manufacturer Continental has broken ground on a new tire plant in Hefei, China.
According to the company, the new plant is located in the Hefei New and High Technology Industrial Development Zone and features the first-phase project of around 70,000sqm of constructional area, the first factory investment of Continental's PLT division in China.
The company said that the new plant will apply environmental-friendly processes and techniques to produce premium medium and high-end passenger car tires to satisfy domestic and overseas demand for premium passenger car tires.
Heinz-Gerhard Wente, member of the executive board of continental, said: "We will invest around E185 million in the Hefei plant, which is scheduled to be completed by 2010. We are aiming for an annual production of four million PLT tires here in Hefei in the first step."
