Simple, Compact Gasification Systems Move Forward, Zeus Conference to Discuss November 5 &Amp; 6
Advanced Gasification Systems are becoming less costly to build — an important development for a gasification industry that hopes to bolt forward within the foreseeable future. While $6 billion IGCC and $2 billion SNG projects appear to have stalled, for example, Synthesis Energy Systems’ simpler, more modular, highly efficient SES U-GAS/MTG systems are being deployed at capital costs of only $36 million per unit to produce methanol for the petrochemical industry and feed for unleaded 87-octane gasoline.
At least three 100-million-gal-per-yr U-GAS/MTG projects are presently underway. The MTG technology converts crude methanol directly to low-sulfur, low-benzene, 87-octane gasoline that can be sold directly or blended with conventional refinery gasoline. By coupling ExxonMobil’s proven MTG technology with the U-GAS(R) process, SES has advanced the technology suite to the point at which the company is positioned to realize its vision of converting low-cost, abundant coal resources into high-value transportation fuels.
Other compact gasification technologies are being developed as well. The Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne (PWR) gasifier is about one-tenth the size of competing systems, and sports efficiency, reliability and affordability. Suffice it to say that scalable next-generation syngas technologies are rapidly being developed today that will convert coal, coke or biomass to syngas, while facilitating carbon capture and sequestration.
Zeus Development Corporation will be hosting the 3rd Annual Advanced Gasification Systems Conference Nov. 5-6, 2008 to discuss the latest and most pressing industry issues and developments.
